A domain name is the URL for your home page (mine is siegalworks.com).
You can check if a domain name is available for purchase by going to any domain registrar such as https://www.hostinger.com/domain-name-search.
Your hosting provider may or may not be the same place you purchased your domain name.
Most new hosting plans come with 1 year free domain registration so you should purchase hosting before or at the same time as registering the domain name.

You should not purchase Wix or Squarespace if you would like Siegal Works to develop your site because they do not support WordPress. We use WordPress because we find it to be the most robust website building platform out there.
