As Zeinat Gelli’s work as an artist began to shift, she decided it was time to change up her website as well. Siegal Works was happy to help with the remodel and showcase Zeinat’s stunning pieces in a new way. We refashioned the overall look and feel and upgraded to the latest features of WordPress. Zeinat’s recent work, while continuing to draw from African culture, are more cohesive so she asked that her older work be made accessible through an Archive.
I love the three bold paintings she chose for the front page, and added a little code to make sure their size adjusted to fill up the browser screen whenever first accessing the front page.
We retained the site icon used for her original site, which is a cutout of an African basket from one of her early paintings, Alapere (Yoruba for basket seller). The little basket coincidentally is decorated with lines that form a Z and the rich, vibrant colors make for a lovely backdrop to the other page headings in the site.
